REGNUM THE CROWN - BATTUTA

INTRODUCTION
"Positioned within Regnum’s hospitality landscape, the Arabic à la carte restaurant is conceived as an experiential space that reinterprets the spatial essence of traditional Arabic architecture through a contemporary lens. Rather than relying on ornamental expression, the project builds its identity through fundamental architectural elements—axis, rhythm, water, and light. The spatial narrative unfolds through a sequence of repeating arches, forming a strong axial progression that guides visitors gradually toward the heart of the space. This journey culminates in a central courtyard, where a linear water feature acts as the primary organizing element. Surrounding seating arrangements are carefully articulated to balance social interaction with moments of intimacy. Ultimately, the project is conceived not merely as a restaurant, but as a cohesive spatial experience shaped by movement, perception, and atmosphere."
CHALLENGE
"The primary challenge of the project was to translate the rich architectural heritage of Arabic design into a contemporary spatial language without resorting to direct imitation. The inherently ornamental nature of traditional references required a careful reinterpretation to align with modern sensibilities and expectations. At the same time, as part of a hospitality environment, the space needed to accommodate high capacity while still offering a sense of privacy and exclusivity. Creating a fluid and open layout that could support diverse seating scenarios—while maintaining a feeling of personal space—was a key design concern. Additionally, the need for the space to transition seamlessly between day and night introduced further complexity, requiring a layered approach to materiality and lighting."
