ALMA

INTRODUCTION
ALMA redefines fine dining as a spatial journey shaped not by spectacle, but by restraint. Situated on a nearly flat coastal plot in Side—where the Mediterranean meets a deeply layered historical landscape—the project responds less to what exists and more to what is absent. With no strong natural texture to anchor itself, the architecture turns inward, constructing its own atmosphere through material, sequence, and controlled perception. Rather than exposing itself, ALMA reveals gradually—inviting guests into a layered experience where movement becomes the primary narrative.
CHALLENGE
The project emerges within a context defined by extremes and contrasts: intense Mediterranean heat, sand-laden coastal winds, and a quiet residential fabric requiring acoustic sensitivity. At the same time, the proximity to Side’s ancient city introduces a historical weight that resists superficial interpretation. The challenge was to create a structure that is at once introverted yet inviting—shielded from its environmental conditions while remaining deeply connected to place, memory, and climate.

SOLUTION
"ALMA is defined by a sequence of thresholds that mediate between privacy and openness. An introverted outer shell protects the building from its environmental conditions, while carefully framed openings guide visitors through a continuous spatial flow extending from the entrance to the terraces. Rather than relying on form, the project builds its character through atmosphere—where light, shadow, and material continuity shape perception. Architecture and landscape dissolve into one another, allowing the space to exist as a calm, immersive environment rooted in its climate and context."
